Tony Bongiovi

ADVISORY BOARD

Over the years, producer Tony Bongiovi has worked with some of rock’s biggest names in the music industry, touching upon a variety of genres in the process (heavy metal, punk, new wave, disco, soul, arena rock, etc.), and was solely responsible for developing and launching the career of now legendary rock star, his cousin, Jon Bon Jovi. At the age of seventeen, while conducting experiments with equipment in his Raritan, New Jersey home, Tony Bongiovi discovered the secret to duplicating the well-guarded audio formula for the Motown Sound. After contacting Motown, his abilities so impressed Motown President Barry Gordy that Tony was flown between New Jersey and Detroit on a regular basis to engineer records for Motown greats such as Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Temptations, and other leading artists.
In 1968, Tony was recruited by New York studio Record Plant, where he was able to implement his acoustic design talents to improve the studio. The Tony Bongiovi “sound”, which became the sound of rock radio in the late 60’s can be heard on the records he engineered for Record Plant artists such as Vanilla Fudge, Dr. John, John McLaughlin and Jimi Hendrix. Tony was hired by Media Sound, in 1970. Tony quickly became the most sought-after engineer and record producer on the staff, and was, without a doubt, a major factor in Media’s ability to attract its world-class clientele. Some of the artists Tony produced while at Media Sound included Jimi Hendrix, Gloria Gaynor, The Isley Brothers, The Ramones, and Talking Heads.
In 1977, Tony Bongiovi, with business partners, designed and founded Power Station studios. Located in an old Con Edison power generation station. The facility was originally intended as a private production center from which Tony could create. However, instantaneously the studio became a huge commercial success due to Tony’s now legendary acoustical design, providing rooms designed specifically for multi-track recording boasting a “live” sound. This groundbreaking design helped win for Power Station Mix Magazine’s prestigious TEC Award (Technical Excellence and Creativity) as Studio of the Year for an unprecedented 6 years, the maximum number permitted. In 1991, Power Station became the first recipient for a special lifetime achievement award from Mix, the Les Paul Award in which the studio was praised for its consistent contributions to audio excellence and creativity. As a producer, Tony has built a solid gold reputation due to his contribution to over 40 gold and platinum records for artist such as Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Aldo Nova, the Scorpions, Ozzy Ozborne, and the largest selling disco record of all time, “Star Wars” by Meco. In addition to his well-known accomplishments and contributions to the development of acoustical design, via Power Station, Tony has also designed studios for Record Plant, Media Sound, Masterdisk, and Turner Broadcasting. He has performed numerous acoustic consulting jobs for a wide variety of buildings and businesses. In 1993, he was brought in as a special consultant by CBS, assigned to improve both the sound quality and acoustical environment for “The Late Show with David Letterman.”
With his unprecedented achievements in the record industry, aviation, broadcast, and acoustics, Tony applied this experience within the technology world by founding Bongiovi Acoustics and launching the award winning DPS (Digital Power Station) technology. Tony’s patented DPS technology has taken the world by storm and is currently implemented into Automotive, Medical, and Consumer Electronics industries. The DPS technology can be found in the marketplace within products by manufacturers such as Toyota, iHome, and Wicked, to name a few.

Charlie Calello

ADVISORY BOARD

Anyone who knows Charles Calello would think his body is built of notes, instruments and scores, rather than bones, organs and skin. Looking at him you get the sense that he has a song playing in his head, one that fits every moment of the day, one that might be the next big hit.
Calello’s passion for music led him to embark on his musical career at the young age of 18, months after he graduated from Newark’s Arts High School in his home state of New Jersey. He took the first step of his musical Mecca when he began playing in local clubs, leaving the future to unfold quickly.
In 1958, Frankie Valli strolled into a nightclub in Newark, New Jersey, and was astounded by a band of young musicians performing live. Already with a hit of his own, Valli knew the music he witnessed barreling off the stage was anything but ordinary. He asked who wrote the arrangements for the band, and quickly shook hands with Charles Calello.
During the next five years, while Calello was working as a musician and attending Manhattan School of Music, he and Valli developed a close relationship which ultimately led to him becoming the arranger for “The Four Seasons.” In the early Sixties, The Four Seasons helped spawn a chain of hit records that catapulted the group to stardom and assisted in creating a sound that is still unique today (Jersey Boys). During those early years, Calello arranged and produced several other top ten hit records included The Name Game with Shirley Ellis, Blue Navy Blue with Diane Renay, A Lover’s Concerto with The Toys, and Lightning Strikes with Lou Christie. In 1965-66 Calello replaced Nick Massi as the group’s bassist and became a member of The Four Seasons, and toured throughout that period.
After years of success with The Four Seasons, and having more than 15 hits as an arranger for the group, Calello went on to accept a position with Columbia Records (Sony Music) as a staff arranger/producer in late 1966. After producing and arranging the nationally acclaimed record for Laura Nyro, Eli and The Thirteenth Confession, he left Columbia Records and settled into a career as an independent arranger, producer and composer.
Calello’s talent continued to produce Top 10 Hits over the years, earning him international acclaim. His discography includes over 100 Billboard chart records, 30 of which were Top 10 Pop Hits and 28 were nominated for Grammys. (See attached) He has also scored 60 television shows, over 250 commercials, and five motion pictures. His creative ability and diversity are exceeded only by the timeless nature and renowned quality portrayed in the rare elements easily witnessed throughout every facet of his work.
Today, Calello’s talent continues to flourish. After leaving the Florida Symphonic Pops, Calello began and still currently produces CDs, live Television shows and DVDs for his own company, Charles Calello Productions. His record label and DVD product is currently distributed on RYKO, a division of Warner Brothers.
On Oct. 20, 2000, Calello was honored for his talent and artistic contribution to the music industry with an induction into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame as one of The Four Seasons. Charles has received a Cleo for a groundbreaking McDonald’s commercial he wrote. Calello’s music has been nominated for over 28 Grammys.
AJersey Boys, a Tony award musical currently gracing the stages of Broadway, is about the life of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Calello arranged several of the songs for the Jersey Boys when he was with The Four Seasons, and is mentioned and glorified in the Broadway hit.
In addition to Calello’s work as an arranger and producer, he currently produces CDs, live Television shows and DVDs for his own company, Calello Music Group. His record label and DVD product is currently distributed on RYKO, a division of Warner Brothers. His latest release is with a new artist, Kelly King. Her single, AI Don’t Wanna Sing That Song, is currently on the Billboard Charts at No. 28. His latest arranging project is the new Frankie Valli CD, Romancing The 60’s, which was recently released and in stores on the Universal Music Group label.
As if numerous hit records weren’t enough, Calello actively continues to write stellar musical performances for Pops Orchestras and live shows, conducts Pops orchestras around the country for various artists and performs his own “hit records” in concert with his own show.
